I recently got an old cowoker's iPhone app http://melloware.com/products/x10commander running, which lets you control control home appliances from your phone. It's a little bit of a miracle and a great demonstration of the 'many layers of technology' phenomenon. My learning experience inspired me to make a little bit of an instructional masterpiece.
